Day 2 of 365: 365 Deadlines, New Site Stuff, 911, Starting Tomorrow

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]365 Project Deadlines[/custom_headline][text_output]I did forget to mention on the of the twists to the 365 Project: sure, everyday has a deadline, but, I got a little more harsh with it.  If I don’t hit publish by 3 AM the next day, the system will publish it for me.  So, if I start something, but never finish it, you’re gonna get to see it anyway 🙂

Though, if I don’t start one, it doesn’t auto-publish (which prevents the site from getting clogged up with blank entries if I fail :-)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”left” level=”h1″ looks_like=”h1″]Oooh, Shiny New Site Stuff…[/custom_headline][text_output]So, in the middle of everything else I’m working on, I ended up with a wild hair.  I saw a theme I simply had to use, that allowed me to completely change the layout and design for the site to something I felt was a little slicker.  Hopefully, everyone agrees that it’s an improvement over the old layout, and that the font choices are better.

The front page is the most major portion of the revamp, design wise:  it now uses a much nicer (in my opinion) circular design layout for recent posts, and buys me a lot of extra space for highlighting upcoming projects.

However, it’s not all done yet.  Mainly I need to do some color changes, things like that, and prep for the serial-publication areas for the books.  Probably sometime next month before I manage to do many more changes to the site, though, just because I can eat A LOT of time just tweaking it all :-)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Starting Tomorrow[/custom_headline][text_output]Tomorrow, of course, is a fantastic land where people loose weight, work out, quit smoking, and save the world.

I’ve been having some tomorrow issues, too.  One of them is my workouts – I was busy today and yesterday, and managed to not work out.  I’ll do it tomorrow.

Well, ya know what?  I AM going to start tomorrow.  I always end up feeling better, have more energy, less problems with the cold, and a host of other things when I work out.  I’ve been freezing for days now, so I’m taking that as a sign from God it’s time to get my butt in gear 🙂

The first 7 days of workouts is just going to be light cardio, and light workouts.  Nothing to really start building myself with, just to start getting the body ramped up again, and get into a routine :-)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]911 And Other Tales[/custom_headline][text_output]I’m one of those people who stop when I see a wreck, ask questions when I wonder if someone is OK, rescue people’s dogs (the neighbors scotties all got out today, headed down the street, and I talked them into going back to the neighbor’s yard – they are folks who don’t get about real well), or, call 911 when there’s a problem outside my ability to solve it.

On the way back from supper, someone pulled out in front of Kat and I, and almost got hit – the other car missed him by less than 2 foot.  Then he drove ultra slow (less than 20 MPH), swerved a bit, and generally didn’t act right.  He pulled into synagogue’s parking lot, and I let it go for a minute.  Then, I though I probably shouldn’t let it go.

Now, Kat is always good natured about my requirement to help or investigate things.  Actually, more than good natured about it, she flat out encourages it, and acts as an extra set of eyes if there’s a car pulled over on the side of the road.  So, when I said I was going back, she didn’t bat an eye – it’s pretty much standard procedure for us.

I pulled into the parking lot, and pulled up window to window with the pickup truck that was stopped.  It took a couple of tries to get him to roll down his window and ask if everything was OK.  He said it was, but he was speaking slow and slurred.  Probably drunk, but, it could also be a medical issue – it’s hard to tell sometimes.

As I pulled away, I decided to call 911, and report the person.  As drunk as he was acting, there’s no way he belonged on the road!

Apparently, that’s not as common of a thing to do as I thought.  See, by my thinking, if there’s someone causing a problem that is a risk to others, I figure everyone just picks up the phone and calls.  Two of the conversations I had tonight surprised me, because not everyone does call ’em.

I’ve talked to 911 operators so often that I have it down pat.  I know what sort of questions they’ll ask, what they want clarification on, etc., before they ask.  I patiently wait for them to ask, and give them full, clear details to every question.  This is my first call for 2014, and I think I only had to make one call in 2013.  But, in previous years, I’ve had to talk to them for:

  • Motorcycle accident
  • Someone actively throwing traffic cones at cars in the street (teenage girls)
  • SUV flipped upside down (somewhere on the site I’m sure I told that story)
  • Multiple drunk drivers
  • Guy doing between 50 and 90 off and  on in the wrong lane of US-54 for 10 miles
  • Guy going the wrong way on US-54, slowly, headed for the liquor store in Goddard
  • Multiple hit and runs (including a wild chase to get a tag number… twice.)
  • Multiple shots fired
  • Multiple “some idiot lit something on fire”
  • Multiple break-ins (including my own vehicle)

And that’s just the stuff off the top of my head.  And, I really hadn’t thought too much about it until today.  So, if you’re reading this, please: when something’s wrong, call 911.  Drunk drivers who are weaving all over the road are a matter of “Oh, the cops will see him” or “oh, it will be all right.”  People die from that quite frequently.  And, yeah, in my history I’ve had some drinking and driving when I was young – though, I also pulled my ass over if I didn’t think I could drive right (the freedom to drive is important to me, so, I was fairly cautious.)

I don’t really care for dealing with cops, but, if it helps someone else out?  Heck yeah.  If it saves someone else?  Heck yeah.  If there’s even a chance that it prevents someone from getting hurt?  Heck yeah.  And I encourage everyone else to do the same.  Take a moment, look at the situation, and if someone could get hurt because of someone else’s actions, pick up the phone and call.  It only takes about 2 minutes, and that’s what they’re there for.[/text_output][line][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Today’s Stats
